Here they are...

More skirts...

It's been a little while, and I really meant to show off some more skirts as well. Finally, here they come... This one is made the same way as the last one, but different colors.
And of course it had to twirl! It has been harder and harder to get her to pose, so when it happens, I have to just go with it.
But she loves these skirts, and wants to wear them all the time. As you can see from the long sleeve pj's, it's still winter/spring here, as my first two skirts where finished in March. With matching skirts for her sister as well, of course! Since then I have made them both 3 more skirts, with different styles, and I'm currently working on a 4th, but I'm not quite happy with the last design, s I think I will modify a bit.
My mother sent me
some fabric from my home country of Sweden, in stretch fabric. Which I had not sewn in since junior high school! I was a little scared at first... Who am I kidding, I'm still a little concerned when I t
ry to come up with ways to do necklines, edges and mending. I don't have a fancy serger or any other fancy stitching, so I'm trying to figure out how to do it on a machine that I'm still trying to learn. My mother-in-law gave me a Babylock that she was not using, which is a great upgrade from my old Brother, what only did straight and zigzag stitches! But I haven't figured it all out yet, and it's quite
moody at times. Things like buttonholes it only does every 2-3 times. And sometimes I can't figure out why it's not working, so I have to rethread it. But all in all, we are doing ok. And it has certainly allowed me to do more things than before. The fabric for this last skirt came from her as well, since she is a quilter and fabric collector. So it's a little overwhelming to go through some of her stuff, and try to figure out what I want, and what will work. Last time she visited, she had a whole box of different fabrics, that I have plans for. Some I have used a lot already, but some are still living in my mind as ideas, yet to be created.
Anyway, here are a tunic/dress, and a tank top for my youngest, and a dress/nightgown for my oldest. All with my own patterns, drawing upon clothes they both had, and ideas I found online.
I love the dotted pattern...

My first skirt

She is not always so keen on posing these days, so sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Such is life with a 4 year old! More to come...
This was my first attempt at a skirt that I saw online and just had to make for V. This is the link to the tutorial. http://grandrevivaldesign.typepad.com/photos/ruffled_skirts_tutorial/skirts4000.htmlI had some fabric laying around originally intended to be used for other things, but, this is what became of it.

Hello everyone...

So I finally did it! I started my own blog, with the idea that I can now more easily share my creations, ideas and thoughts with everyone, friends, family and everyone else as well.
It is finally quiet in the house, and I got a chance to sit down and actually hear my own thoughts for the first time today. The rain outside, my little one's crankiness from getting her first molars (all 4 are working on coming in, and has been for the last few weeks poor girl!), and my older one is working on trying to take over my role as a mom, with an attitude as well! And today I was just too tired to get a play date in, and now I'm being punished for it! Oh the joy of motherhood! But, I didn't want to make this place all about my motherly complaints, but about creativity and ideas. Currently I have taken up sewing again, which besides curtains, pillows and the occasional mending, I haven't done much of since middle school. About 6 months or so ago, I got into reading other people's blogs about projects they had made, and it got me going. So here I am, a few successful (and a few not so successful) projects later. Most are for my two daughters, whom seem to enjoy wearing my creations, no matter how happy I am with them, lucky for me.
I have made few things for myself as well, but so far I haven't yet dared to wear any of it, all though that was kind of the point, originally. Mostly skirts, since they are so easy, and so much fun. My older one is into anything that twirls, so if it doesn't twirl, she will not wear it. Which makes lots of laundry, and lots of unused clothes in her closet. So after seeing some great tutes online, I decided to make her some. Now both her and her sister have 4 new skirts, all mostly twirling. Hopefully we will get some use out of them, and make mommy a little less stressed about doing laundry every single day.
Here are some photos of the two sisters, wearing my newly made creations. Thanks vegbee for your great creations, and getting me to start sewing again! And for the rest of you, her is a link to her great tutes, and fun stories. Enjoy, and hope to see you here again soon!
